POTATO HARVESTING

The modern way to harvest potatoes,
'captured' in recent days at Curraghmore:

The light-brown land in the distance shows the extent of the potato crop area.

Harvesting with The Gap in the Comeraghs in background.

Trailer with suitable containers being loaded
from the harvestor's conveyor belt.

The modern harvester being used.

Note the canvas-covered platform at the end of this huge machine.
Two men worked inside this, picking items (probably stones?) from the conveyor belt
and discarding them!

October 23rd:
Just eighteen days later, I managed to get out while nursing a bad cold for some time
and lo and behold, the ground above had already been ploughed and harrowed
and spring wheat covered the entire area in a beautiful shade of green!

R O A D W O R K S . . .

Remedial work all around the local roundabout has been going on for weeks
and is now nearing completion.
Here a gentleman is using an angle-grinder.

Simultaneously in the background is this vehicle cruising non-stop around the perimeter,
spraying water (?) and sweeping (?) the area to keep down the dust.
This very expensive project may well be a complete waste of money,
as while the work was in progress,
people were parking on the edge of the roundabout centre itself,
outside the many 'bollards' in front of the Centra
and outside the bollards between the entrance and exit areas!
Not alone that, drivers were still taking a chance coming down Talbot Terrace,
and driving anti-clockwise around the roundabout to park at the Main St. side of the Centra.
Better still, while one driver (A) was coming up Main St., a driver (B)  coming from the William St. side waited for driver (A) to move on to the roundabout until he (B) could go down the wrong side in order to park at the far end of the Centra car-park.
Driver (A) realised what (B) was up to and didn't budge,
resulting in driver (B) having to continue up Factory Road!
It's all happening most days!!!
It will be all so easier now for these drivers to continue doing the same
when all the bollards are gone.
A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IS CERTAIN TO HAPPEN!

Saturday, Oct. 21st:

My predictions are already taking place.
Maybe the Centra people should widen their front door and allow parking inside!

Curraghmore Harvest August 2017

Making the most of the good weather at Curraghmore
before the forecast torrential rain comes
this evening and tonight (Sept 2nd and 3rd).

“Smoke hangs like haze over harvested fields,
The gold of stubble, the brown of turned earth
And you walk under the red light of fall
The scent of fallen apples, the dust of threshed grain
The sharp, gentle chill of fall.
Here as we move into the shadows of autumn

Suas leis An Déise!

The county is ablaze with blue and white in support of the
Waterford County Senior Hurlers
as we approach All-Ireland Final day next Sunday.
This was one of the best we've seen,
but there are many more great ones around.
This can be seen as you go downhill into Passage East.

Danger on road to Clonagam

These two goats, pictured outside Clonagam church entrance yesterday, August 25th,  have been straying on the road to Clonagam for the past week and may well cause an accident. Forty minutes earlier they were seen on the Portlaw side of Clonagam hill.

Apart from the problem/s they might cause, they may well be suffering from lack of water.

We're glad to say the goats were back within Clonagam cemetery next day, where, obviously, they have been used to graze, keeping the grass low for visitors, etc.
