a mecca for rock-climbers?

No!  Just the back of a headstone in Castletownarra cemetery, County Tipperary, 17th July 2005. Spotted, as I headed homeward from a trip to Donegal, Lough Derg on Shannon and Dromineer.

Inis Cealtra/ Holy Island.

The historic island in Lough Derg on the river Shannon, is accessible by boat (hired) from Mountshannon quay-side.  Well worth a visit. The boat owner allows time to have a good walk around the place to see the many interesting ancient sites.  The Sliabh Ara mountains, which more or less overlook the village of Ballina and town of Killaloe can be seen on the right side of the picture.
(The Arra Mountains or Arra Hills are situated in County Tipperary in Ireland, between the towns of Nenagh and Ballina, south east of Lough Derg and north of the M7 Motorway. The highest summit is Tountinna at 457m high. Wikipedia)

A few more images to follow.

Regrettably, I was unable photograph the rest of the event.

For the day that's in it . . .

A memorial window to 'The Right Hon. William xxxxxx' (surname illegible) in St.Brigid's Church, Manor Kilbride, Co. Wicklow. The gentleman's coat of arms can be seen underneath. It includes three oak (?) leaves.  A search via Google failed to reveal anything to do with the name or coat of arms.  A single left click on the image will show an enlarged version.
