Spotted this plant growing by the roadside near Tower Hill Cottages a few days ago.
Only one was visible.
It's the first time I've seen this plant in the area.
Have been observing scores of them for some years near Clonmel train station.
Botanical name - Dipsacus fullonum
Various spellings are used for the popular name.
Teazles were used to 'tease' or brush woven woollen cloth, so as to raise the surface fibres – the nap. The uneven raised nap was then cropped with shears to produce a fine, smooth surface.
