PROBLEMS WITH PREVIOUS PAGE, WHICH I AM UNABLE TO CORRECT AND COMPLETE JUST NOW!

I have since managed to correct the situation
simply by changing my browser back to
Mozilla Firefox!

A BEACON TO LIGHT UP THE FUTURE???

A new light for the top of the Caldbeck Fountain in Malcomson Square, after a very long wait!
This was noticed only yesterday, but I understand the new replacement was installed before Christmas.
In the background can be seen O'Neill's Pharmacy and the Heritage Centre.

The replacement matches exactly that photographed by the Poole Photographic Studio very many years ago, which was fuelled by gas. The new source of power will be electricity.
The birds are obviously quite pleased with this new vantage point!

New Year Greetings!

NEVER A DULL MOMENT!

Fire at the Tannery - Christmas Eve!

Unknown to me, at just about 1.30 pm on Christmas Eve, a fire with flames up to 50 feet high, and dense black toxic fumes reaching much higher skywards, was taking place just about 250 metres from me beside the old tannery ruins.
When I heard about the situation, Portlaw fire brigade had already been on the scene for some time, and as I rushed down with my camera, Kilmacthomas fire brigade with their larger fire engine was just arriving at the entrance.
Following them closer to the scene, the above picture is what I then saw and captured.

On getting closer, with permission, I realised the situation was well under control and that the fire was not in any of the buildings, but in a very large collection of old tyres in the centre of the yard.

The huge collection of tyres in the centre of the yard, and all around the perimeter,
were used for protection purposes when car 'drifting' takes place there.
Fortunately no major damage or personal injuries occurred.
Thanks to both fire brigades for their prompt action!

AUTUMN GOLD!

Autumn colours have been with us for some weeks, but are quickly disappearing,
and snow is expected in a few days.
The Clonagam road has been most impressive in many places, as can be seen above,
with it's Beech trees, Spanish Chestnut Trees, and that most invasive Japanese Knotweed!

You're likely to see ANYTHING dumped on the roadside and over fences in the Portlaw area
in recent years.

Distinctive Portlaw Houses # 1

This beautiful building, a few miles south of Portlaw, built in the 1800s
as the rectory for Guilcagh church, was later used as a school for some time.
The house has been modernised in recent years to the highest standards
and is once more a dwelling house.
